Passage Three This week some big Internet sites were so busy that they stopped working. Hackers or people who break into other people’s computers did it. Experts think programs called Tribal Village or Trinoo were used. The programs worked like time bombs. The hackers put software on other people’s computers. The people do not even know. The software just sits and waits until the hacker starts it. When the hacker wants, all the computers call the same web site. This week Yahoo, eBay, Amazon, CNN, Buy, eTrade and zNet were called. The costs are growing. These web sites make money from advertising. People go to the web sites for information and news. If the web site is not working, they will go to other sites. Yahoo got many calls. It was like 104-million people dialing in at once. The website AntiOnline put the software on its site. They hope someone will make a fix. The only way to stop the hackers is to stop them from getting into computers. Now it is easy to
A. computers are hard to reach
B. everyone has their computers locked
C. computers are not very secure
D. companies ask them to do it

Foreign nationals have long been slipping across the border with fake papers, and visitors who arrive in the U.S. legitimately often overstay their legal welcome without being punished. But since Sept. 11, it’s become clear that terrorists have been shrewdly factoring the weaknesses of our system into their plans. The Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) (移民归化局) lacks the resources, and apparently the inclination, to keep track of the estimated 2 million foreigners who have intentionally overstayed their welcome.
But this laxness (马虎) toward immigration fraud may be about to change. Congress has already taken some modest steps. The U. S. A. Patriot Act, passed in the wake of the Sept. 11 tragedy, requires the FBI, the Justice Depar
A. might have them extended without trouble
B. would be closely watched by FBI agents
C. might stay on for as long as they wished
D. would live in constant fear of deportation
