Imagine eating everything delicious you want with none of the fat. That would be great, wouldn’t it
New "fake fat" products appeared on store shelves in the United States recently, but not everyone is happy about it. Makers of the products, which contain a compound called olestra, say food manufacturers can now eliminate fat from certain foods. Critics, however, say the new compound can rob the body of essential vitamins and nutrients and also cause unpleasant side effects in some people. So it’s up to consumers to decide whether the new fat-free products taste good enough to keep eating.
Chemists discovered olestra in the late 1960s, when they were searching for a fat that could be digested by infants more easily. Instead of finding the desired fat, the researchers created a fat that can’t be digested at all.
Normally, special chemicals in the intestines (肠道) "grab" molecules of regular fat and break them down so they
A. contains plenty of nutrients
B. makes foods fat-free while keeping them delicious
C. renders foods calorie-free while retaining their vitamins
D. makes food easily digestible
What do you think your children are served at school The children were served chips and other "junk foods" (powder and water for soup!) on a daffy basis. They shunned any vegetables placed on their plates despite genuine efforts made by the cooks at the canteens to make them food from fresh vegetables. Wastage of food is an enormous issue in these canteens.
This article will be focused mostly on vegetables because these are the main foods which are a problem for children.
·Educate your children about the different types of vegetables
Try the following experiment. Take some junk foods like chips, burgers, candies, etc. and add a few vegetables like tomato, cabbage, celery, or choose any other vegetables from this list of cooking vegetables and ask your kid the
A. Limit their pocket money.
B. Treat them to sweets and healthy food together.
C. Hide the junk food from them.
D. Tempt them into eating healthy food instead.
Passage 4
Eating in space is different from eating on earth. The food that astronauts carry with them does not look like the food you eat. Some food is carried in closed bags. It is cooked and frozen before the astronauts get it. All the water is removed from the food. In the spaceship the astronaut puts the water back. He "shoots" hot or cold water into the food bag with a special gun. He eats the food through a small hole in the bag.
Other foods come in bite size. The astronaut puts a whole piece in his mouth at once. There can be no crumbs. Crumbs would float around the spaceship and get in the way. Meat and cake often come in bite-sixed pieces. Astronauts can’ t drink water from open cups. The water would float in drops in the air. The water is put in the special gun. The astronaut shoots the water into his mouth. Eating in space is not easy. Astronauts must learn this way.
