Most people think of lions as strictly
African beasts, but only because they’re been killed off almost everywhere else.
Ten thousand years ago lions spanned vast sections of the globe. Now lions hold
only a small fraction of their former habitat, and Asiatic lions, a subspecies
that split from African lions perhaps 100,000 years ago, hang on to an almost
impossibly small slice of their former territory. India is the proud steward of these 300 or so lions, which live primarily in a 560-square-mile sanctuary (保护区). It took me a year and a half to get a permit to explore the entire Gir Forest--and no time at all to see why these lions became symbols of royalty and greatness. A tiger will hide in the forest unseen, but a lion stands its ground, curious and unafraid--lionhearted. Most of the guests who come on our trips have never been to Egypt before. We want to make everyone comfortable and at ease, but we do always get the same questions in advance of trip. So here I will give you some travel tips.

Writing to people ... [单项选择]Passage 2
One of the most difficult questions to answer is how much a job is worth. We naturally expect that a doctor’s salary will be higher than a bus conductor’s wages. But the question becomes much more difficult to answer when we compare, say,a miner with an engineer,or an unskilled man working on an oil-rig(钻油机)in the North Sea with a teacher in a secondary school. What the doctor, the engineer and the teacher have in common is that they have devoted several years of their lives to studying in order to obtain the necessary qualifications for their professions. We feel instinctively(本能地)that these skills and these years, when they were studying instead of earning money, should be rewarded. At the same time we recognize that the work of the miner and the oil-rig laborer is both hard and dangerous, and that they must be highly paid for the risks they take.
Another factor we must take into consideration is how socially useful a man’s work is,regardless of the talents he may brin
