Peter was late. His seat in the theater was in the middle of one of the rows. Half the people in the row had to rise to let him pass, and he was embarrassed to cause so much trouble. Then when he was comfortably seated, he began to worry about .whether he had turned off the lights of his car. If he hadn’t, the battery would be run down by the time the show was over. Finally he could stand it no longer. Even more embarrassed than before, he stood up and began to move in front of the people.
"Excuse me, please. Excuse me," he said to each person as he passed. His lights were off. All his worry had been for nothing. When he returned to the theater, he felt he just couldn’t bother the people again and decided to stand at the back of the theater:, rather than ask them to rise third time.

M: Is this seat taken
W: I don’t think so. The woman who was here finished her supper and left.

W: Welcome, Mr. Johnson. Take a seat, please. Our manager will be back soon.
M: Thank you. Urn, it’s rather warm these days, isn’t it
W: Yes. The weather is quite unusual at this time of year.
M: You’re right. Er...do you mind if I take off my jacket then
W: Sure. Make yourself at home.
M: Thank you, that’s better. Urn...do you mind if I smoke I notice nobody’s smoking around here.
W: Well, I’m sorry, but this is a non-smoking office building.
M: Oh, that’s OK. I’m trying to quit it anyway. By the way, may I use your phone to book a table... for lunch
W: Yeah. Sure. Do you know which restaurant is good
M: Oh, yeah, absolutely.
W: Fine. The phone is over there.
M: Thank you.
