[单项选择]

Some anthropologists study modern-day societies of foragers in an effort to learn about our ancient ancestors who were also foragers. A flaw in this strategy is that forager societies are extremely varied. Indeed, any forager society with which anthropologists are familiar has had considerable contact with modern nonforager societies.
Which of the following, if true, would most weaken the criticism made above of the anthropologists’ strategy()

A. All forager societies throughout history have had a number of important features in common that are absent from other types of societies
B. Most ancient forager societies either dissolved or made a transition to another way of life
C. All anthropologists study one kind or another of modernday society
D. Many anthropologists who study modern-day forager societies do not draw inferences about ancient societies on the basis of their studies
E. Even those modem-day forager societies that have not had significant contact with modern societies are importantly different from ancient forager societies
[单项选择]Passage Five
Some modern anthropologists hold that biological evolution has shaped not only human morphology but also human behavior. The role those anthropologists ascribe to evolution is not of dictating the details of human behavior but one of imposing constraints-ways of feeling, thinking, and acting that "come naturally" in archetypal situations in any culture. Our "frailties" --emotions and motives such as rage, fear, greed, gluttony, joy, lust, love--may be a very mixed assortment, but they share at least one immediate quality: we are, as we say, "in the grip" of them. And thus they give us our sense of constraints.
Unhappily, some of those frailties--our need for ever-increasing security among them--are presently maladaptive. Yet beneath the overlay of cultural detail, they, too, are said to be biological in direction, and therefore
A. a position on the foundations of human behavior and on what those foundations imply
B. a theory outlining the parallel development of human morphology and of human behavior
C. a diagnostic test for separating biologically determined behavior patterns from culture- specific detail
D. a practical method for resisting the pressures of biologically determined drives
[单项选择]Anthropologists commonly distinguish three forms of marriage: monogamy, the marriage of one man to one woman, polygyny, the marriage of one man to two or more women, and polyandry, the marriage of one woman to two or more men. Polygyny and polyandry are often linked under the single term "polygamy" , a marriage of one individual to two or more spouses.
Though there are many societies which permit, or even encourage, polygamous marriages, it does not follow, in such societies, that every married individual, or even that a majority of them, has more than one spouse, Quite the contrary is true, for in most, if not all, of so called polygamous societies monogamy is statistically the prevailing form. The reason for this is clear: the proportion of male to female births in any human society is roughly the same, and if this proportion is maintained among the sexually mature, a preponderance of plural marriages means that a considerable number of either men or women must remain unmarried.
A. polygyny is not prohibited
B. one sex greatly outnumbers the other
C. most people are undereducated
D. a minority of people are very rich and powerful

[填空题]Anthropologists have divided prehistoric North America Indian societies into three categories: bands, tribes, and chiefdoms. Bands were the earliest and most common form of social organization. However, it is unlikely that the first people who came to North America about forty thousand years ago traveled in bands. The climate in the Bering Strait region was so severe and food was so scarce that large groups of people, such as the bands, would have had great difficulty in making such a journey successfully. The earliest people probably traveled in single family units. Some of the units, however, may have gathered together periodically for social reasons.
66. ______
Whatever the beginning of the bands in the New World, this form of organization was very common after the initial settlement of the continent. Bands flourished throughout North America until the time of European colonization. In many areas, they survived long after the arrival of the Europeans. When English, Dut
