I would like to suggest that the University of California, Riverside make swimming a required course for all present and incoming students. This advice is prompted by three reflections. To begin with, college is one of the most stressful times of life for most people. Swimming is an ideal stress-reducing activity. Older swimmers often display a significant decrease in high blood pressure. Another benefit is that swimming is perhaps the ideal exercise, giving a workout to every muscle group. I would like to propose that the university make available to incoming freshmen their future roommate’s contact information (e-mail, phone, etc.) Doing this will afford students a couple of considerable benefits. The first of these is that it will serve as a sort of "ice-breaker." Contacting future roommates before the beginning of school will enable students to get along with each other earlier and have at least one friend on campus when they arrive.
