A poor farmer had a friend who was famous for the wonderful apple trees which he grew. One day, his friend gave the farmer a young tree and told him to take it home and plant it. The farmer was pleased with the gift, but when he got home he did not know where to plant it. He was afraid that if he planted the tree near the road, strangers would steal the fruit. If he planted the tree on one of his fields, his neighbors would come at night and steal some of the apples. If he planted the tree near his house, his children would take the fruit. Last night I had a frightening experience. I was eating dinner at the fast - food restaurant where I normally go when I’ m in a hurry, the manager announced that everybody had to evacuate the building. The place was crowded and that made the situation dangerous, as everyone was determined to get out first. To make matters worse, an elderly woman, who must have weighted 300 pounds, had just come up to the entrance, which was also the only exit. In the mean time, I remembered that I had left my purse in the chair I had been occupying when the announcement was made. It was certainly not convenient to return and get it, but I had to do it. When I finally got outside, I saw that the police bomb squad had arrived and the men were studying the are a. They eventually determined that it was all a false alarm and the crowd dispersed.
